W.I.N.G.S. Overview

Windward InstructioN for Generalization of Skills (W.I.N.G.S.), also known as “The W.I.N.G.S. Group”, is a BISS created, supervised, and programmed community-based shared venue for facilitated practice in social skills, communication skills, functional academics, money and purchasing skills, “good manners”, fine & gross motor skills, pre-vocational skills, hygiene and self-help skills, community safety skills, exercise, leisure and recreational skills, navigation and travel skills (safely walking and utilizing public transportation [TheBus and HandiVan]) ONLY as mandated in each students’ IEP. 

Activities are facilitated to practice these and other career and life skills with neurotypical teens (as student models), and atypical teens, their one:one supervisors (paraprofessionals or PPs), peer mentors, adult volunteers, and business members in the student’s home community. 

With support of BISS and PP services, participation is individualized according to his or her current level of performance, IEP goals and objectives, and current programming.

Each student’s IEP goals and objectives mandate specific programming and are supervised by BISS in consult with teacher and team.
